Toronto Raptors 19/20 Season Predictions

#WeTheNorth actualy #WeTheChamps!  Last year we witnessed history as our Raptors defied all odds and obstacles and became NBA Champions!  This was one championship I never thought I would live to see, but here we are!  With the heartbreaking departure of Kawhi Leonard, expectations for this season had to be significantly lowered.  However, it doesn’t mean the season is going to be terrible!  Here are my predictions for the Raptors 2019-2020 season.

Raptors make play offs easily

#WeTheChampions

Just because Kawhi is gone, doesn’t mean we’re going to just be shit!  We won the majority of the games with a similar roster without Kawhi, hell we beat a fully stacked Golden State team with Kevin Durant without Kawhi!  So to count us out this season is laughable.  We most likely won’t repeat, unless we get a Kawhi level superstar, to say we’re going to repeat is a long shot.  But I feel we will make the playoffs easily! Best case scenario 2nd  in east and make Finals again.  Realistic scenario 3rd in East, first round victory, second round exit, Worst case scenario 6th in east, first round sweep.  Either way, we’re still a perennial playoff team and we’re not going to tank!

Pascal Siakam becomes an All-Star starter, DPOY nominee and gets the biggest contract in team history

Pascal Siakam
Pascal Siakam

Keep in mind…I wrote this in late September! After a breakout season last year where he was arguably the second best player on the team.  Expect him to elevate his game significantly and be the backbone of the teams defence.  He’s already gotten the Most Improved Player award and a Championship ring, now he’s going to be looking to make a mark on the League.  Also, Raptors fans always vote for the All Star Starters!  Expect him to be the backbone of the Raptors for a while!

Fred becomes an All-Star gets signed for 3 years

Fred VanVleet

A guy who defied all the odds and is now an NBA Champion.  While Pascal is going to get the larger contract, if Fred strong clutch play continues, expect him to be the lead point guard for the Raptors soon.  He may also look at getting a nomination for Most Improved Player!

Kyle goes to All-Star game for the final time in his career

Kyle Lowry
Kyle Lowry

This guy has been the heart and soul of the team.  He has re-signed again and again and again!  However father time is going to catch up to him, while he will have a good season, this seems like it’ll be his last All-Star caliber season and he will be headed towards the decline of his career and skills.  I feel he will be the first Raptor to have his number retired, but that’s for another day.

Marc and/or Serge are traded

Marc Gasol Serge Ibaka
Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol

While they certainly had a strong impact on the team, I feel we won’t see either of them back after this season.  They both have 1 year left on their respective contracts and if they were to walk next season we would lose them for nothing.  So looking at trading them for some picks to help the soft rebuild of the team and clear salary cap space would be a good decision in the long run.

Norm has breakout season and becomes regular starter

While playoff Norm is another creature, this year Norm will see significantly more playtime and will improve quite a bit.  He will end up starting the majority of the games in the second half of the season.
