We can talk about how much we dislike people, how Social Distancing and Self Quarantine is how some of us “normally live” but the reality is, this sucks! This whole situation does suck, we’re missing little things like having a drink at the bar, going to the movies, chilling at Starbucks, giving someone a high 5, just basically normal things which we never thought we legitimately took for granted. Sure we can have virtual hangouts via Skype, Zoom and Facetime but it’s not the same. But unfortunately there’s nothing we can do about it, we can only make the best of what we’ve got. Right now the majority of us have a lot of time on our hands and here are some ideas of how to make the best of
this time.
Learn A New Skill
You can use this time to learn something new skill. Wanted to learn photography, Photoshop, video editing, or a new creative skill? You have time now, there are plenty of free tutorials on YouTube but if you really wanted something more in depth you can get some courses off Udemy at an inexpensive rate.
Be Creative
If you already have skills that you want to experiment with now is your time. Start a portfolio, a blog, YouTube channel or just make something physical like a drawing or painting. You get better at something the more you practise it, so practise your skills.
Exercise
The most important thing you can do right now. It’s very easy to stress eat, be lazy and not care right now, hell that was me this past Sunday. The Social Distancing can make us feel really unmotivated, lazy and depressed however, exercise is known to be one of the greatest antidepressants around. If you don’t have a home gym or any equipment do some bodyweight exercises/calisthenics (Push-Ups, Squats, Pullups, Triceps-Dips, Lunges and etc.). Or even walk around the house or up and down the stairs.
Read
I don’t read as much as I’d like to, but we’ve got time. Do you have a backlog of books that you’ve been meaning to read but haven’t had a chance to finish? Find one you’d like to finish and start with that one. You may find this could lead to a domino effect and you then end up clearing your backlog. This could even help you kill 2 birds by learning new skills!
Video Games
While maybe the least constructive suggest (But also most of our favorite!), this is a good time to make an attempt to clear that gaming backlog that we’ve all put aside. There are many games out there that are well over 30 hours(God Of War for example) long and can help you escape reality quite a bit, but there are many that don’t need a huge commitment (Most mobile games, let’s suggest Tetris) that could just give you a quick break. However, I would suggest video games over Movies and TV anytime since you are actually doing something engaging instead of just sitting.
Talk To Each Other
I can’t stress this enough, we have ways to keep in contact with each other that previous generations didn’t. Text, video chat, share memes, hell even send voice notes. Social Distancing doesn’t mean isolating yourself. Talk to your friends and family, because they probably need it as much as you do.
Spend Time With Family
Right now you have time to spend with family that you may not have again, it’s best to make the most out of it.
