As the 2010’s are now ending and we’re into a new decade. It’s time to look back at my favorite games of the decade. I decided to make a list of what I felt was the best game of the year, there are some I haven’t played yet which could potentially have made the list but right now here is what I am choosing!
2010 Heavy Rain
Narrowly beating out Super Mario Galaxy 2 (And I mean narrowly)! It was a game, which in my opinion wasn’t a game, it was an interactive movie. It was the first of its kind to really do the “Choose your own adventure” in a video game format. While the gameplay was quite basic, the emotion, characters and story kept you hooked…not the mention you were playing as the main villain the whole time!
2011 Arkham City
So this wasn’t my favorite of the Arkham Series, but it was still epic! I will firstly admit I am not a huge fan of Open-World games, I do prefer the game to be more linier and not having to search where to go next. But hey, this time you’re going through all of Gotham and it works. The villains roster was much bigger along with the game and it had really intense action and again truly let you feel what it’s like to be Batman.
2012 Super Mario Bros. U
So looking back maybe it was just for myself, but 2012 wasn’t a strong year for gaming! Out of anything I played that year, this one seemed to be the one I enjoyed the most. As an 80’s baby, Mario will always have a place in my heart and I am always looking forward to any Mario game. While the one on the DS is superior, this one was a fun game and can be played multiple times, plus the co-op option makes it more enjoyable (Most of the time). But in the end, it was just a good Mario game and nothing overly special.
2013 The Last Of Us
While 2012 wasn’t that great, 2013 more than made up for it! This one was a tough one, since Tomb Raider, Mario 3D World and Injustice were all released that year. But this game, isn’t just a great game, this game is a work of art! Beautiful, engaging, deep story, strong characters and frankly, not afraid to cross any lines. This game was the swan song for the PS3 and really left you speechless once it was done!
2014 Super Smash Bros WiiU
The swan song of the WiiU, as with most Smash Bros, it’s always one of, if not the most anticipated release on any Nintendo system. And like most Smash Bros, it’s infinitely replay able, with a larger roster, more levels and more weapons it was really showing why we love this series.
2015 Arkham Knight
This one is my favorite of the series (Will continue on that later)! The game play, the cinematics, the Batmobile and the internal battle between Batman and Joker! It ended the series on such a high note it was almost heart breaking. You also got to play as different characters, the game itself was actually scary at times and it made you want to play the side missions!
2016 Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Again while not the best of the series, it was definitely a great end to it. It explored a lot of Nathans backstory, the environments were beautiful, the gameplay had some minor changes which helped improve it. And it maintained the lighthearted humor which made the series so great and the intense action sequences which kept you at the edge of your seats!
2017 Injustice 2
I can’t express how great this game is! The story mode was insane, the graphics are what gaming should peak at and the actual gameplay mechanics are nearly perfect. This is not just one of the best superhero games ever made, but I’d argue that it’s the best fighting game ever made!
2018 Spider-Man>
Arkham Knight is still in my opinion the best superhero game ever made, but if this game is a start to a larger series, that may soon change! This game really let you feel what it’s like to be Spider-Man, not just as the hero, but also as Peter Parker. The character growth in this game was done so well, it made you sympathize with the villains to a certain point…Let’s not forget the absolutely soul crushing ending…
2019 Resident Evil 2
Before Resident Evil 4, the original Resident Evil 2 was the best game of the series…Till now! As I am writing this I have yet to completely finish the game but I can with confidence say this is the best game of 2019! This wasn’t just a typical remaster, this was a full out remake! The game plays better, is voiced better, is paced better and not to mention looks amazing! The game has such an intense atmosphere and feel to it, you are on the edge of your seat the whole time. And this time Mr. X, doesn’t have fixed locations, he will come out of no where whether you’re prepared or not!
