So this was actually a well done movie, but I have a lot of issues with it. First of all, had this movie been made with male leads, I’m certain the title would’ve been something along the lines of “Rapists”. Because honestly, what was done to these guys was not far off and the fact that this Is based on a true story and that Cardi B. did this and is now a successful artist is actually pretty sickening.
So the movie itself was good, JLo and Constance Wu were great together, it really showed hard realities of struggles, it actually was quite entrepreneurial the way they took to stripping. It showed why they did what they did, how they were going to do whatever it takes. But then the greed sunk in, they lost why they were doing what they did and in the end it was purely for greed.
As a movie it’s well done. But painting the characters in a positive light wasn’t, they should’ve shown them to be as bad as the people they ripped off. The fact that they got a slap on the wrist as a punishment in the end was laughable…I give this a 6/10
- Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu
- Entrepreneurial feel
- Well paced
- Realistic and grounded for the most part
- Painting the characters as heroes
- Didn’t show enough consequences of the victims
